This is called "reversing!!"

I like reading in the main library of UCL. The classical environment is so quite and academic.
And I read some art design book and found this artiest Richard Wilson.
Because I saw it is just a serious photographers and thought this is just some digital composes initially. However, I search this guy and his work, it totally shocked me!
It is a real device and can moving different angles.
The thing that I only can say “This is totally reversing!”
From the viewers to the building itself.

Destroy, reverse ,and re-building the relationship

In order to reconstruction a new relationship, I have to destroy the defection of the object.
How to destroy? It makes me confused for a long time.
Should I destroy the whole space? Or just revere the direction?
Because Staurt mentioned about the interior of car and the car crash space, I looked for some pictures of destroyed or abandoned architectures and cars.
I found some interesting concept.
These be destroyed or abandoned things are so beautiful if the viewer have different mood to see them.
They could be another new objects which people can’t imagine before.
For example, the grass grows on the ground of the way of bowling alley. I think no designer has this new ideal to create this new surface of the ground.
The seat spreading over moss in an abandoned car is a new issue for environment friendly.
The dramatic reinforcing steel bar exposes to the air could be seen another new construction of architecture.
However, if none makes these ideal and concepts stand out from these ruins, new concepts would never happen.

The affection in modern world

Ok, I am starting to revere the way people think of me and the way they used to see.
Since from the new ideal of modern art (like Marcel Duchamp and Dali ) changes all kind of way people think, I think I can find out many examples that relate to challenging and revering people’s think.
Entertainment, fine art, and architecture are three different ways which relate to revere the people defection.

Superman, a guy wearing the underwear uniform, has to hind his real identity.
Why the writer wants this character wearing the underwear in front of the reader?
On my opinion, superman is not only the super hero but also a half human.
In order to close to human, he chooses the closest way to do. (wearing male underwear!! )

“ The high heeled shoes made from the human skin ” made by the artist, Nicola Costantino.
She also creates a serious man-made human skin dressing which choose the privates part like nipple, bellybutton, and anus. From these strong outside images, viewers can have different point of view by think dressing and animal leather.

“The Pompidou Center ” designed by Renzo Piano, Giantranco Franchini, and Richard Rogers. What significant design is unlike traditional architecture, all functions are exposed on the façade. Contrast to the other old building surrounding this art center, this architecture just like a different creature lading on this site. However, Pompidou Center becomes one of most successful museum in the world eventually! Because just like art, it totally reverses the way people look architecture.

Reversing~!

I am a little confused during the tutorial time this week.
Staurt mentioned about some artists like Marcel Duchamp and Dali which works inverted and redefined the object and incident.

And he also talked about the relationship between the invading and personality.

Therefore, I checked some works of Dali and Duchamp which Staurt recommended.

“The rose sleazy” which was transvested by Duchamp.
He tried to change all images that people used to including himeslef.

“Rainy taxi”, which was another crazy iedal from Dali
Dali said
When I'm in a taxi in New York, people will often stop and point and exclaim, 'Look! Look! It's Salvador Dali!" But if Joan Miro were in a cab in New York, no one would know who he is!"

I think when we destroy the way what we think, we have to find another way to redefine the object, event, and concept at the same time.
Therefore, the way people think and observe would be reversed by a strong and dramatic image.
Dali and Duchamp tried to break up definitions which people think them properly.
Most of people might think they are crazy guys.
In fact, when I studied fine art, I didn’t realize the concept that they want to deliver to people is what totally.
Till now, I am getting understand their ideals and thoughts.
Because this moment my project is what kind of way people see through and how to definite the personality of object, architecture, and event.

The last thing is that Staurt also mentioned about the interior of car like a car crash?
It makes me confused!!
Hope I can find out the relationship of these two before next tutorial time

Different way of viewing and the in between of changing

Finally I visited nationally museum!! It is for my project instead of being a tourist. Staurt asked us to choose a painting in order to inspiriting our ideal or project. It’s quite interesting!
Therefore I picked one painting “the toilet of Venus” which painted by Diego Velazquez.
I like the virtual way he chosen. For example, although the Venus she is back to the audience, she also can be one of viewers look at herself. And we are able imagine the fanatic relationship between the painter, the woman, and the audience.
It indeed inspired me, because one part of my project is the way of viewing.

Therefore I made different layers of faces which framed by a wooden construction and made by different materials.

I try to figure out what kind of sentimental people have when seeing something through the back of the different layers and what kind of feeling when people pretend to be somebody else.

Different material could mean different concepts, sentiments and ideals.
And the other important concept is what relationship and space between two layers.
How people change their mood before welcoming the new layer or new generation?
Medium space and mood are quite interesting issues that I want to explore next step.

The facade of objects is truth?

Since I am talking about the relationship between the personality and the way people viewing, I looked for some cultural information. Suddenly, I reminded two Asian incidents : the first one is a traditional play called “face changed” in China , and the other one is the traditional clothes for royalty lady in Japan.

The similarities of these two traditional incidents are 1. There are different layers , 2. Different layers mean different ideals and defections.

“twelve layers clothes” is a traditional royalty lady clothe. The total weight is quite amazing! 20 kg! Therefore, the lady has to move slowly in order to show off her elegant. Meanwhile, colors of the clothes also present the different seasons and items. I am wondering?, if there are a normal people wear this clothe, her movement must also very slowly. Should we are able to call this normal people a loyalty?

The traditional play “face changing” also is an interesting one. The actors don’t like others in the traditional play. They have to change their face in order to show their emotions. Because these variations change quickly, the audiences only can see their faces change again and again. Finally, the player would show his or her face to the audiences which the highest monument in the whole play. I think when people was watching this kind of play, they must wait to the last monument to see the real face of the players. Masks always play an important role of people’s curious. I couldn’t wonder that does the sentential of the players will also follow the mask? Or just like acting?

Then I viewed back the site pictures I took last time. The canvas which covering under construction building just like the first layers which show to the public. After recovering the canvas, people are able to see the new inside of this building but the same outside of its façade. That’s because in London, government have to protect the façade of these old building. Therefore, I think about the connection between face and inside. What you see is not exactly what in side.
So I took apart the buildings layers of the under construction building. Trying to figure out the different layers meaning to public and all environment. It also makes me think that ever architecture has their personality or role for different generations.

who am I ?

In traditional Taiwanese education, students asked to be performance well. No matter what subject you interesting in, “good” students means that they can do everything well.
Then students have to hind their interesting subject, because the only goal that they have is entry the good university.
Therefore, you will see a talent painter is a pediatrics doctor, an amateur dancer is a lower, and the band’s vocalist could be a professor.
Truth personality inside of your body is hard to figure out in Asian society.

Since I am in London, experience different culture shock
These couple of days, I was keep thinking how to figure out who am I , and what am I doing in this school.
Thinking of my background, fine art bachelor, architecture master degree, and interior designer, I need to find some way, which belong to myself to introduce to the audience.

In order to using a device to measure different environments, I created a measure to mirror and reconstruction all the sense that people see originally.
One material is the mirror; the other material is different angle of picture.
This is just only the first step of an experiment…..

drafting the concept

First time meet the Air street.
Although masses stores gathered together on the Oxford Street, people are not able to see a lot of signboards which flooding on the street of Taipei.
All the façade on this street are Victoria style.
Balance, harmonious, and delicate craving create an environment that symbolized a classical framed window which fascinated people want to take a look and go inside.
Just like a magic mirror, what you imagine than what you will get.
On this street, you can choose what kind of style, as long as you pay for it.

I can’t help and ask myself:Why people always need an illusion to help them to keep facing the reality world? Why people needs to satisfied the others exception instead of building their self-estime?

In order to figure out who am I, I studied fine art, got a master degree of architecture, and as an interior design.
Finally, I am here, in London, standing on the Oxford Street.
Form this street, I try to find out what kind of material or background can measure peoples fantasy, illusion, and exception.

This collage presents a rough draft of my ideal and concept, trying to create an image and a stage to describe my story.

Saul leiter

Thanks for our teacher Stuart introduce us an amazing photographer Saul leiter.
By his way, I am able to illustrate and image the emotions that people in big cities such as Paris and New York is so desolate but be related each other.
From his artist background, these pictures combined some post impression elements. For example, the way he successfully altered the light into his pictures just like the way impression artists consider the light is the most important role of all impression elements.

I like these two works: snow, c. 1960 and canopy.
From snow we can tell that although the man stand on the frigid street, through Saul’s trick, he seems to become an image relate to a warm and moist window. Especially some words written on the vapory window seems present the ideals in the man’s mind.

Canopy, is one of his early work.
Black and heavy canopy occupies two third of hole picture which contract to tiny people walking on the street. We can not help asking: what relationship between these people and the viewer?
